An Open Letter from McLaren St. Luke’s to the Community

What Promedica's Decision Means for Paramount Health Plan Members

On behalf of our dedicated physicians, nurses, staff and board, thank you for trusting St. Luke’s with your health. Since 1906, our hospital has cared for generations of families in our community and we are grateful for your support as we begin a new journey as McLaren St. Luke’s.

This chapter promises to bring many meaningful benefits to our community. In addition to preserving hundreds of jobs and stimulating millions of dollars in economic activity every year, significant investments are planned that will modernize our facilities and enable us to deliver a broader range of high-quality health care services right here in Maumee.

Unfortunately, ProMedica’s recent decision to drop McLaren St. Luke’s from the provider network of its Paramount health plan means fewer people will have access to our care. Effective January 1, 2021, thousands of individuals and families throughout northwest Ohio will no longer be able to receive care at any McLaren St. Luke’s location or from our Wellcare Physicians Group providers. ProMedica’s notice of termination was issued because of McLaren’s acquisition of St. Luke’s, which will make new investments in the hospital’s infrastructure and services possible and provide greater competition for ProMedica.

We are deeply disappointed by ProMedica’s decision, which will limit choice for Paramount members and cause significant harm to our hospital. Most concerning, the termination will disrupt the trusted relationships thousands of individuals and families have established with their doctors and caregivers.

Many of you have asked what you can do to ensure you are able to continue receiving care at McLaren St. Luke’s from the providers and caregivers you have come to know and trust. As open enrollment season begins, we urge you to consider choosing a plan that includes our hospital and physicians in its network. McLaren St. Luke’s and WellCare Physicians Group remain in network with more than 30 insurance plans, including the major carriers below. For the entire list, please visit www.mclaren.org/stlukesinsurance.

Please know that caring for all members of our community remains our highest priority and we are working hard to resolve this situation. In the meantime, I want to share a heartfelt thanks for your continued trust and support. It is truly an honor to serve this community.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Montgomery, RN, MSA, FACHE
