Dedication of the Robert W. Considine Heart & Vascular Center

McLaren Northern Michigan officially dedicated and named its Heart & Vascular Center in honor of Robert W. Considine on Monday, July 16.

The dedication was made after Mr. Considine made a lead gift in honor of the care provided to him by Louis A. Cannon, MD, Interventional Cardiovascular Specialist; Senior Program Director, Heart and Vascular Center; and President, The Cardiac & Vascular Research Center of Northern Michigan.

“Dr. Cannon and saving the lives of cardiac patients at this hospital have been very important to me,” Considine said. “I’ve made gifts in the past to fund equipment and further the life-saving work performed by Louis and his team. For this donation, I wanted to leave a legacy and honor Louis who once told me I would ‘not [die] on his watch.”

Mr. Considine’s donation will fund a new catherization lab and equipment, as well as the purchase of new Robotically assisted Percutaneous Coronary Intervention technology. It will also create the Robert W. Considine Heart and Vascular Program Endowment Fund to build on the program’s strength and reputation as one of the nation's 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases as determined by Truven/IBM Watson Health.

“I am truly moved by the generosity of Mr. Considine,” Cannon said. “His gifts have literally helped save the lives of hundreds of cardiac patients. Our program is strong because of his commitment and support.”

“The dedication of Robert W. Considine Heart & Vascular Center will impact patients for generations to come,” added David Zechman, President and CEO of McLaren Northern Michigan. “We are grateful to Mr. Considine for supporting the work of Dr. Cannon and his team, as well as our vision to impact the lives of the patients who rely on McLaren Northern Michigan for their care.”
