McLaren Lapeer Region recognized by the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association for stroke care

LAPEER COUNTY, Mich.—McLaren Lapeer Region, the 222-bed acute care hospital serving all of Lapeer County, has earned recognition from the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association for its proficiency in its care of stroke patients. The hospital’s stroke program earned the Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke Silver and Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite Plus awards for the quality, efficiency and effectiveness of its treatment of patients who have suffered a stroke.

Based on up-to-date, evidence-based treatment guidelines set by the AHA/ASA to improve patient care and outcomes, the Silver award recognizes McLaren Lapeer Region’s compliance to quality measurements and its adherence to those guidelines for a period of 12 consecutive months. These guidelines include making a timely diagnosis, administering the appropriate medications and providing stroke patients with discharge instructions to address their stroke risk factors.

Additionally, McLaren Lapeer Region earned the Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite Plus recognition for its timeliness in administering IV tPA, a medication to dissolve stroke-causing blood clots.

“By having best practices supported by national guidelines in place, our staff gives our patients the best chance of achieving an enhanced outcome after their stroke,” said Jacqueline Raymond, stroke coordinator at McLaren Lapeer Region. “For these efforts and our proficiency of care and commitment, this recognition demonstrates the effectiveness of our program.”

The fifth leading cause of death and the leading cause of adult disability in the United States, 795,000 people suffer a stroke each year. On average, there is one stroke every 40 seconds.

Part of the McLaren Stroke Network, McLaren Lapeer Region provides 24/7 initial evaluations by an interventional neurologist for all suspected-stroke patients and 24/7 neuro intensive care coverage.
