McLaren Northern Michigan Welcomes New Cardiologist

Joel Engel, DO, General Cardiologist

McLaren Northern Michigan is pleased to welcome general cardiologist, Joel Engel, DO, to Michigan Heart & Vascular Specialists.

Dr. Engel received his medical degree from the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his internal medicine residency and cardiology fellowship at Detroit Osteopathic Hospital. Dr. Engel is board certified in internal medicine and general cardiology and has additional certifications in multiple cardiac subspecialties.

As a general cardiologist, Dr. Engel sees patients in the hospital as well as provides office hours to treat and monitor heart disease.

“I believe in a proactive approach to treating cardiovascular disease,” stated Dr. Engel. “Through diet and exercise, with the support of medication and procedural interventions when necessary, heart disease can be treated effectively. I consider myself to be a team member with my patients. I am here to encourage and guide them.”

With over 30 years of cardiovascular experience, Dr. Engel is looking forward to continuing his career in northern Michigan. “I have been a northern Michigan home-owner for some time and I have always felt a kinship to the area,” said Dr. Engel. “When there was an opportunity to practice in Petoskey, it was an easy decision.”

Dr. Engel, along with his wife Cindy and dog Winston, is looking forward to all that northern Michigan has to offer. In his free time, he enjoys golfing, gardening, landscaping, home improvement projects, and reading American history, art, and architecture books.
