McLaren Oakland recognized by Healthgrades with Patient Safety Excellence Award

McLaren Oakland, the 328-bed acute care provider serving all of Oakland County, was awarded for its safe care environment by Healthgrades, which recognized the hospital by including it on their list of Patient Safety Excellence Award 2020 recipients. Released annually, Healthgrades’ Patient Safety Excellence Award recognizes hospitals “that have the lowest occurrences of 14 preventable patient safety events.”

Inclusion on the list places McLaren Oakland among the top 10 percent of acute care hospitals nationwide in patient safety.

“Now more than ever before, our patients need to have absolute confidence that they are being cared for in a safe and compassionate environment,” said Margaret Dimond, Ph.D., president and CEO of McLaren Oakland. “To be recognized and ranked among the country’s best acknowledges the dedication and ability of our caregivers, and adds a level of trust for our patients. This is an award shared with our entire organization.”

Hospital data is tracked and measured, determining that provider’s effectiveness in preventing injuries, infections and other serious conditions while patients are in their care. Healthgrades considers 14 patient safety indicators and other measurements to create the list of recipients.

McLaren Oakland is one of five McLaren Health Care providers to earn the recognition, with McLaren Macomb, McLaren Port Huron, McLaren Lapeer Region and McLaren Greater Lansing also included on the list.
