Port Huron, MI – McLaren Port Huron is pleased to announce the recent acquisition of the da Vinci Xi Surgical System. The da Vinci Xi Surgical System was designed with the goal of further advancing the technology used in minimally invasive surgery. The da Vinci Xi Surgical System can be used across a spectrum of minimally invasive surgical procedures and has been optimized for multi-quadrant surgeries in the areas of gynecology, urology, thoracic, cardiac and general surgery.
During minimally invasive surgery (robotic-assisted or traditional laparoscopic), surgeons operate through a few small incisions using long instruments and a tiny camera to guide doctors during surgery. Robotic-assisted da Vinci Surgery also features:
• 3D HD vision system that gives surgeons a magnified view inside the body
• Tiny instruments that bend and rotate far greater than the human hand, and reduce hand tremors
• Enhanced vision, precision and control
As with all da Vinci Surgical Systems, the surgeon is 100% in control of the robotic-assisted da Vinci System, which translates his/her hand movements into smaller, more precise movements of tiny instruments inside the patient’s body. The Xi System’s immersive 3D-HD vision system provides surgeons a highly magnified view, virtually extending their eyes and hands into the patient.
The Xi is the second da Vinci robot for McLaren Port Huron – the da Vinci Si model was purchased in 2012. Since 2012, 12 surgeons have been trained to perform robotic surgery at McLaren Port Huron, and more than 1,200 procedures have been performed. The most common procedures include hysterectomy, prostatectomy and hernia repair. Patient benefits of robotic surgery include significantly less pain, less blood loss, lower risk of infection, shorter recovery time (in the hospital and at home) and smaller incisions for less scarring.
