Visitor Restrictions in Place to Prevent Spread of Flu

McLaren Flint Makes Temporary Changes to Visitor Policy

Due to Widespread Flu Across Michigan

For the safety of patients, visitors and staff, McLaren Flint is implementing temporary visitor restrictions to limit the spread of influenza and other respiratory infections. Influenza is currently reported as widespread across the state of Michigan.

Visitors, especially children, may not know they have the flu. They may not be showing flu symptoms and can easily pass the flu on to others. Patients are in the hospital to get better and can get very sick from visitors who may only have mild flu symptoms.

Visitor Restrictions

Children under the age of 12, as well as anyone with the following symptoms are asked not to visit patients in the hospital.

  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Sore throat
  • Runny Nose, Nasal Congestion
  • Stomach virus symptoms

Patients and visitors going to the hospital’s clinic/outpatient departments with any of these symptoms will be asked to wear a mask. These are provided on respiratory hygiene stations at entrances and in lobby areas. Visitors are also reminded to wash their hands or use hand sanitizer before, during and after visiting patients.
