Golf Outing Raises More Than $55,000 for Karmanos Cancer Institute

The ninth annual Tee It Up to Beat Cancer golf outing was held July 9 at Lakeview Hills Golf Resort, Lexington. This fundraiser, organized by Dana and Dennis Fabbri, raised a record-high $55,583 to support cancer treatment and services at the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute at McLaren Port Huron.

The donation from this year’s outing will be used to upgrade the TrueBeam radiation system table and treatment delivery software to a version which will be compatible with the breathing system software that was purchased last year. The TrueBeam upgrade will deliver the radiation treatment to coincide with the tracking system as the patient is breathing, only delivering the radiation to the area of interest in the target zone. Together this provides a treatment to the patient that is more beneficial to their long-term health.

Over the past nine years, Tee It Up to Beat Cancer has raised more than $275,000. The donations have purchased state-of-the-art equipment for radiation patients, sponsored a private infusion bay for chemotherapy and supplied heated massage chairs for chemotherapy bays.

“Thanks to the generous donations from the Tee It Up golf outing, we have a state-of-the-art cancer center right here in the Blue Water Area,” says Sara Tait, director of McLaren Port Huron Foundation. “This takes so much stress away from the patients and their families who don’t have to make an hour or more drive for daily treatments.”
