Didactics

Our core curriculum is based on fulfilling the COCATS (Core Cardiovascular Training Requirements from the American College of Cardiology). Fellows will complete:

9-12 months of general cardiology floor months (including CCU)
Exposure to Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant through Henry Ford Main or Cleveland Clinic
Preventative Medicine and Cardiac Rehabilitation
Multiple electives available through outside institutions
Cardiac Catheterization
Nuclear Cardiology
Echocardiography
Vascular Medicine
Advanced Cardiac Imaging
Adult Congenital Heart Disease
Electrophysiology
Research

Fellows are directly involved in a multitude of procedures including:

Diagnostic catheterizations
Percutaneous coronary intervention
Chronic total occlusion interventions
Atrial septal defect closures
Carotid stenting
Peripheral vascular intervention
Intra-aortic balloon pump insertion
mpella assist device insertion
Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) temporary and permanent pacemaker implantation
EKOS catheter insertion
ICD/BiV implantation
Loop implantation
Supraventricular and ventricular ablation procedures
Electrophysiology studies
Electrical cardioversion
Transesophageal echocardiography
Various open-heart surgeries

How to Apply

Application Method

Applications to the McLaren Macomb Cardiology Fellowship program are only accepted through the ERAS system.

Only complete applications are reviewed.

Qualification of Candidate Eligibility

Applicants must meet all of the following criteria:

Residents enrolled or graduated from an internal medicine residency program provided by a college of medicine or osteopathic medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) or American Osteopathic Association (AOA) leading to the MD or DO degree.
Be a US citizen.
Have legal residency status and eligibility to work in the US.

Selection Process

We are listed in ERAS as the McLaren Health Care/Macomb/MSU, Cardiovascular Disease (ACGME number 1412514300). This is the only place where applicants for interviews are selected. Applications are reviewed by the program administrator, program director, and associate program director. Those selected with then be contacted by the academic administrator with an invitation to interview.

Interviews

Applicants will be notified to interview by invitation ONLY. The cardiology interviews will be held virtually. All applicants will interview with the program director and associate program director, along with any other faculty or residents the program director feels necessary. Details regarding the program will be sent out once an applicant has accepted and scheduled an interview.
