McLaren Flint is partnering with the Flint Firebirds Hockey Club for the 7th consecutive year for a cancer awareness event. “Hockey Fights Cancer” will take place on Saturday, October 22. The puck drops at 7:00 p.m. (ET) at the Dort Financial Center. There will be plenty of action both on and off the ice as the Firebirds host the Windsor Spitfires in an exciting Ontario Hockey League battle.

“Hockey Fights Cancer” generates awareness and raises funds to support the community with many services, including transportation to and from treatment, free 3D mammograms to help with early breast cancer diagnosis, education, as well as oncology nurse navigators, and much more. The Flint Firebirds players will wear specially designed jerseys during the game that will be autographed and auctioned off at the end of the third period. A 50/50 raffle will also be held.

“We greatly appreciate the Flint Firebirds partnering with us again this year to raise funds for this important cause,” states Doug Glazier, Vice President, McLaren Flint Foundation. “We are looking forward to all of the night’s activities at this family-friendly event.”

The Firebirds have dropped the puck for their 7th season in Flint and there are several players on the roster who have been drafted and signed by NHL teams. Who will be lucky enough to make the winning bid on these star players’ game jerseys?

“The Flint Firebirds are excited to partner with the McLaren Flint Foundation again this year in the fight against cancer,” said Jeremy Torrey, Flint Firebirds President. “We all have loved ones who have been or could be affected by this disease. Having the ability to make a difference creates a great amount of pride for our fans, players, and organization.”

Great seats are still available and can be purchased at the Dort Financial Center Box Office, or through etix.com.

Prior to the hockey game, McLaren Flint and the Flint Firebirds are also partnering with local organizations, many of which offer free or low-cost services and resources for women to connect with. Area women are invited to this female-focused event from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. There is no charge to attend, and parking will be free to participants during those two designated hours. Women who attend can learn more about cancer screenings, the McLaren Family BirthPlace, lactation services, art therapy for those touched by cancer, pelvic floor therapy, Carriage Town Ministries, Beauty for Ashes, Genesee County Free Medical Clinic, Maternal Infant Health Program, Crossover Ministries, and much more. No registration is required. For a list of participants, please click here.
