McLaren Macomb CNO Haener Recognized with Nightingale Award for Nursing Excellence

Tricia Haener, MBA, BSN, Chief Nursing Officer at McLaren Macomb, has been recognized by Oakland University’s School of Nursing as part of its 36th Annual Nightingale Awards for Nursing Excellence. The region’s most prestigious nursing honor, Haener earned recognition by winning its Excellence in Executive Administration category.

Recipients of the award are first nominated by their colleagues, leaders, or staff. Excellence in Executive Administration is earned by those who are a “visionary in leading people and change, building effective teams,” but who also “develops leaders and inspires others to action.”

“I am deeply touched and moved to be recognized with a Nightingale Award,” Haener said, “though the true honor is in having been nominated by the people I work closest with and those who work directly with our patients — who see the impact our standard of care has on them. I feel very fortunate to be part of this organization and work with this dedicated and compassionate team of nurses.”

Haener was nominated by McLaren Macomb’s Nurse Practice Council, a committee of the hospital’s nursing staff who design and implement the standard of nursing care provided throughout the hospital.

In its nomination, the Council described Haener as a strong leader since her arrival at McLaren Macomb in March 2022, attributing her with enhancing patient care and safety, increasing recruitment initiatives, building relationships with staff as well as nursing and health care organizations throughout the community.

The Council also describes a leader who is willing to lend a hand and work side-by-side with the staff, sharing a story in which Haener worked in the emergency department during a busy Super Bowl Sunday, assuming responsibility for the care of five trauma patients the department had received that evening.

“Tricia’s understanding of the delivery of high-quality care as being a service to the community drives her unwavering dedication and commitment to the patients at McLaren Macomb and inspires those around her,” said Jennifer Montgomery, McLaren Health Care Chief Nursing Officer. “Her drive, passion, and value in her team make her truly deserving of this award.”

In addition to Haener, McLaren Macomb Director of Patient Safety & Risk Jamie Sand and McLaren Oakland ICU nurse Rochelle Johnson were also deserving of nominations from their colleagues.

All Nightingale Awards for Nursing Excellence Award nominees will be recognized during a ceremony in early May.
