McLaren Oakland is Verified Level II Trauma Center
McLaren Oakland, the 328-bed acute care hospital in Pontiac, has earned re-verification as a Level II Trauma Center from the American College of Surgeons. To achieve verified trauma level status, medical centers must meet the essential and rigorous criteria that ensure trauma care capabilities and institutional performance set forth by the American College of Surgeons which includes having a trauma surgeon available within 15 minutes. While the Committee on Trauma does not designate trauma centers, it confirms their dedication and commitment to providing the highest quality trauma care for all injured patients.
ACS Verified Trauma Centers are required to:
- Maintain a well-coordinated trauma team and provide ongoing education and professional development for the staff
- Provide immediate access to diagnostic tests and equipment to allow physicians to make rapid decisions regarding appropriate care
- Conduct injury prevention workshops and offer prevention and safety information to the surrounding communities
- Maintain a trauma registry
- Continuously review procedures to improve efficiency and ensure that trauma patients receive the specialized care they need and deserve
