Diabetes Education Class Information

Most insurances cover diabetes education classes and private pay options are also available.

What to bring with you:

1. A list of your current medications, including insulin doses
2. Your blood sugar log and your glucose meter
3. Your health insurance card and driver's license.

Helpful class information

• A friend or family member may attend with you as a guest without charge.
  

Group classes may last three hours, however, we do take a break in the middle. We suggest a meal or snack before coming to class to prevent a long delay in eating.

Topics covered in the diabetes self-care education series include:

• Diabetes diagnosis and progression;
• Meal planning and carbohydrate counting;
• Understanding your blood sugar numbers;
• Preventing complications;
• Stress management;
• Goal setting.

Classes are available for:

• Gestational diabetes (diabetes during pregnancy);
  
• Administering insulin and other injectible medications;
• Individual sessions arranged by appointment.

Flint's Diabetes Self-Care Education Program is certified by the Association of Diabetes Care and Education Specialists (ADCES).
