Annalecia Franco, who goes by “CiCi”, a phlebotomist in the laboratory department at McLaren Greater Lansing, was honored with the BEE Award. The BEE Award, which stands for “Be Extraordinary Every day,” recognizes health care team members who made an extraordinary difference in a patient's care or overall experience.
The nomination, submitted by a coworker, read as follows: “I work in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and CiCi is here often to draw our patients. She is also the one who is called for our difficult draws. She is always so prompt once called or notified. She is so gifted at her job, always kind and caring to the patients, and puts everything back as she found it. She is always professional and smiling. Thank you, CiCi, for being very helpful!”
Franco was recognized by hospital leadership and coworkers as she received a certificate commending her for “being extraordinary every day.” She received a pin, treats, and a sculpture that symbolizes care and comfort.
While Franco's career at McLaren spans three years, her familiarity with McLaren Greater Lansing is rooted in a generational connection. Her mother and both grandmothers were valued employees, providing her with a unique understanding of the organization and the health care industry prior to her employment. Despite her own fear of needles, Franco was able to overcome that fear and become a phlebotomist. She now leverages her experience, combined with her natural calming and caring demeanor, to help patients feel at ease.
“It’s truly an honor to be recognized,” said Franco. “I just want to treat and care for my patients the way I would want to be treated, and it’s really great to feel that the effort I put into my role is being recognized.”
