Mrs. Kelly Pletzke's 6th – through 8th -grade science students at Bay City Academy created 125 care packs for McLaren nurses and 6th grade delivered them today. This delivery marks their 5th year, which started after the COVID-19 outbreak. The project began after their superintendent was admitted to McLaren with complications from COVID in 2021, nearly taking her life. After recovery, she expressed her gratitude to the nurses who provided care.
Mrs. Pletzke said, “She and the students could never fully show their gratitude for the compassion and personalized care received. It’s why they work on this community project and have continued it each year.” Her classes, consisting of 92 middle schoolers, generate personalized letters and bags with heartfelt messages and illustrations to express their thankfulness. The students fundraise throughout the year by way of hot cocoa, popsicles, and sucker sales, using a portion of this money to purchase these gifts.
“Our community wouldn't be the same without the help and dedication of nurses like those at McLaren. Thank you for all you do!” said Kelly Pletzke.
We couldn’t agree more, Kelly, and we would like to thank you, your students and Bay City Academy for providing us with such wonderful packages of kindness and Joy!
