David Penski, registrar in the patient access department at McLaren Greater Lansing, was honored with the BEE Award. The BEE Award, which stands for “Be Extraordinary Every day,” recognizes health care team members who made an extraordinary difference in a patient’s care or overall experience.
The nomination, submitted by a coworker, reads as follows: “Many times, Dave has come up to my department if there are any issues regarding registration. I have seen him go above and beyond to help patients and their families with directions, or if he is not able to help, he always follows through. He has a positive attitude and a smile every time I see him. You can never tell if he is having a rough day or is super busy. He always puts the patients first. He should be recognized for his positivity and patient care, especially since he is one of the first people patients have contact with. Dave is such an integral part of McLaren, and he deserves this award for all he does.”
Penski was recognized by hospital leadership and coworkers as he received a certificate commending him for “being extraordinary every day.” He received a pin, treats, and a sculpture that symbolizes care and comfort.
Penski has worked at McLaren Greater Lansing for two years, bringing 14 years of health care experience with him. After transitioning from a career in manufacturing, he found his true calling in the medical field.
“I love helping people, especially in a medical setting; they are oftentimes in a vulnerable moment or not having the best day, and I like the opportunity to make it just a little bit better for them,” said Penski.
