Meet Dr. Usman.
Why did you choose this profession?
I always dreamt of doing something to help others and make a difference in their lives. Growing up, I realized the biggest difference I can make in another's life is by improving their healthcare, which is why I decided to pursue medicine.
Why general surgery?
I like the intricacies of surgical procedures, the ability to have a direct and immediate impact on outcomes through surgery, and the depth of trust between the patient and the surgeon. The ability to alleviate pain, correct anatomical problems, and save lives through surgery is incredibly rewarding. The amount of trust a patient puts in their surgeon is one of the most honorable duties and one that I intend to uphold with compassion and empathy.
Do you have any specific areas of interest?
I do all kinds of general surgical procedures, but my passion lies in hernia repair through minimally invasive (laparoscopic and robotic) complex abdominal wall reconstruction, comprehensive colon cancer care, and anti-reflux surgery.
What do you hope to accomplish with your practice?
I hope to establish an atmosphere of trust where patients can come to me for their surgical problems. I intend to offer the highest standard of surgical care and provide comprehensive care in a convenient location for my patients in Mount Pleasant and the surrounding areas.
Why did you choose to practice in Central Michigan?
I have always been fascinated by the vibes of small-town America. There is a more personalized connection that people establish by living in a smaller city and Mount Pleasant offers me that opportunity. I also would like to be a part of a growth process, which I see in McLaren Central Michigan, and I hope to play a positive role in the growing community of physicians and surgeons.
What would you like your future patients to know about you?
I want my future patients to know that I am dedicated to providing compassionate and comprehensive care. Your well-being is my top priority, and I will strive to listen, understand, and address your concerns.
Are there any items you would like our staff or area physicians to know about you?
I am looking forward to meeting and working with you all. I am hoping that we can all work together to build a strong community of healthcare providers to offer the best care and serve the people of Mt. Pleasant and its surrounding communities.
Interest outside medicine and personal details?
I am a car enthusiast, I enjoy playing soccer and skiing, and I'm always looking for a new adventure.
