McLaren Macomb only hospital in the county to offer advanced technologies for orthopedic spine surgery

MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich.—McLaren Macomb, the 288-bed acute care healthcare facility serving all of Macomb County, is the only hospital in the county to offer leading-edge orthopedic spine surgery technology that will provide surgeons with more defined imaging during procedures, resulting in greater accuracy and enhanced clinical outcomes from their minimally invasive approach.

Dr. Anthony Cucchi

Utilizing the anatomical map provided by the Ziehm Vision RFD 3D imaging unit, McLaren Macomb orthopedic spine surgeon Dr. Anthony Cucchi benefits from 3D images created by this advanced technology to develop a personalized surgical plan for each patient.

Integrating with the imaging unit is the NAV3i Platform from Stryker, an advanced surgical platform that assists the surgeon throughout the operation and includes applications to display imaging that updates as the procedure progresses.

“The importance of the spine cannot be understated,” Dr. Cucchi said. “And when it comes to repairing its structural soundness, the precision of the procedure is of the utmost importance. If we have the opportunity to utilize advanced technologies to assist the surgeon in ensuring optimal precision is achieved and directly benefit the patient, it’s a choice we will always make.”

Herniated discs and other degenerative disc diseases can lead to debilitating pain in the back and neck and send shooting pain down the arms and legs. Depending on the severity, some conditions require surgery.

With extensive experience in minimally invasive approaches to orthopedic spine surgery, Dr. Cucchi prefers the benefit these procedures directly provide the patient’s recovery when compared to traditional, open approaches.

Minimally invasive techniques allow Dr. Cucchi to approach the spine through small incisions with less soft tissue damage, and a quicker recovery, return to activity and less need for post-op pain medication.
