McLaren Macomb is proud to again recognize members of its care team with the Daisy Award, a nationwide program to recognize outstanding nursing.
Case manager Annette Love, RN, cardiac specialty unit nurse Kelly Frisbee, RN, and endoscopy nurse Lisa Haase, RN, are the latest hospital recipients of the Daisy Award.
“The Daisy Award is a regular and influential reminder that the heart of nursing is the courage, compassion, and commitment nurses bring to their patients each and every day,” said Tricia Haener, McLaren Macomb Chief Nursing Officer. “It is our honor to recognize these nurses, not only for their actions that led to this celebration, but for all nurses who chose this as their profession and calling.”
Annette was nominated by a hospital colleague.
When I think about Annette Love, I think about a nurse with compassion, intelligence and unwavering support. Annette continues to have complex cases in the ICU, and I want to nominate her for the Daisy Award for her exemplary efforts in case management.
She recently had a patient who was admitted after a construction site accident rendered him paralyzed. What stood out was her genuine commitment to the patient and family. This case was exceptionally difficult as she was dealing with an external case manager, insurance company, and all the details of planning an out-of-state air transfer.
She not only tended to his discharge planning needs but also took the time to check in on his emotional well-being as well as his family’s. She showed him compassion and empathy. Whether it was a moment to offer a comforting word or offer an update to the family, she calmed his anxiety and gave him hope. Her presence made a significant difference in his hospitalization.
She also formed a professional and supportive relationship with his family. Their appreciation was displayed to Annette by the hugs and smiles at the honor walk she arranged.
Annette reminds us of the impact a single nurse can have on a patient’s life and turn a difficult journey into a path of hope.
Kelly was nominated by a patient in her care.
My husband ended up on the cardiac floor very unexpectedly after a heart attack. He had no prior history of high blood pressure, high cholesterol or diabetes. After Dr. Logan (amazing too) placed a stent in his heart at 2 a.m., neither my husband or myself knew what to expect the next day. Kelly was the nurse on duty. Every time she entered the room she wore a smile. She explained everything clearly that she was doing and provided us with reassurance that everything was going to be alright. Kelly even asked me if I needed anything.
We both truly appreciated her attentive care. Kelly even stopped by without us calling her to see if we needed anything.
This was our first experience with McLaren Macomb and was definitely a positive one. I will never hesitate to recommend this facility with such caring staff. The nurses in the cath lab at 2 a.m. were very nice too. Everyone helped make a traumatic experience easier to grasp. We are so very thankful.
Lisa was also nominated by a patient.
Lisa introduced herself on the phone during pre-registration the day before my husband’s procedure. She was so nice on the phone and patient with our questions.
It was a nice surprise to meet her in person and to be told she would be with him during the procedure and I would see her again in recovery. Having Lisa from start to finish during a fearful medical event was a blessing to us and another reason our community hospital is so important to us.
