Ronda Davis, a unit assistant in the surgery department at McLaren Greater Lansing, was honored with the BEE Award. The BEE Award, which stands for “Be Extraordinary Every day,” recognizes health care team members who made an extraordinary difference in a patient’s care or overall experience.
The nomination, submitted by a coworker, read as follows: “Ronda is an effective communicator to keep the surgery scheduling running smoothly. She is the person that surgeons, staff, anesthesia, and even patients go to first for the most accurate information about our department and the surgery schedule. There are often calls from concerned patients regarding questions about their surgery times, follow-up care, and how to connect with their surgeons. She makes sure that their questions are answered by the appropriate staff and that they feel supported.”
Her nominator went on to say: “Ronda is the listening ear for all the complaints from every level of staff in the surgery department. She responds in a professional manner to all the grievances and connects staff to team members who have a solution to their issues. Ronda keeps all the departments that interact with surgery up to date on changes in our schedule. The surgery department would not be the same without her.”
Davis was recognized by hospital leadership and coworkers as she received a certificate commending her for “being extraordinary every day.” She received a pin, treats, and a sculpture that symbolizes care and comfort.
Davis has worked at McLaren Greater Lansing for 25 years. She went into health care right out of high school and found that she loved being able to talk to and care for her patients and build meaningful relationships with them. After being in different positions, she landed in the surgery department and says her favorite thing about her job is working with her coworkers.
“I’m a people person; I’ve always loved making connections with people,” said Davis. “If I can assist in some way; talk with a patient, a family member, or even a coworker; calm them down, or get them the information they need, I’m glad that I can help in any way I can.”
About the BEE Award
While nursing staff are often recognized with the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses, the BEE Award was created to symbolize the exceptional care and services delivered by hospital team members outside of the nursing profession.
