McLaren Bay Region Welcomes Dr. Perjohan Persson To General Surgery Team

Perjohan Persson, MD is one of three new general surgeons at McLaren Bay Region, expanding his practice from McLaren Central Michigan to add to an already robust McLaren Bay Region General Surgery team.

We sat down with Dr. Persson to ask him a few questions about himself, and his path to the Great Lakes Bay Region:

Q: Why did you choose a career in medicine?

A: Simply put, I wanted to help people. I think that working in the field of medicine allows me to impact people’s lives for the better, and it is why I love my work.

Q: How did you decide on general surgery?

A: I fell in love with general surgery during my medical school rotation at the University of Cincinnati. I love that the scope of the field lets me interact with all types of patients and procedures.

Q: What made McLaren an appealing option at which to practice?

A: I’ve learned that rural areas are where I work best, and practicing here allowed me to do so. I’m thankful to be a part of such a tight-knit community, and everyone has been very gracious to me during my time here so far.

Q: Why did you expand your practice to include the Great Lakes Bay Region?

A: I wanted to be able to offer my patients more extensive services – growing my practice to both the Central and McLaren Bay Regions has allowed me to have a greater reach and more availability to patients in both areas.

Q: What do you hope to accomplish with your practice?

A: I hope to continue to practice a broad spectrum of general surgery – from hernia surgery to cancer care. I enjoy performing a wide range of procedures – it is both challenging and very rewarding to provide care in different areas.

Q: What are your interests outside of your office?

A: I love spending time with my family when I’m not at work. Travelling, cooking and playing guitar are some of my favorite things to do in my spare time.
