McLaren Port Huron Demashkieh Women’s Wellness Place Achieves Reaccreditation

The Demashkieh Women’s Wellness Place, McLaren Port Huron’s breast care center, part of statewide McLaren Health Care and Karmanos Cancer Network, has earned full reaccreditation from the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers.

The achievement is an indication of the program’s quality and proficiency in providing full-service and multidisciplinary breast health, from regular screening mammograms through the diagnosis, care, and treatment of breast cancer.

The program’s achievement was earned following an onsite visit and thorough evaluation by fellow health care professionals and representatives of the American College of Surgeons, whose programs are the “definitive measure” of hospitals’ quality.

In their comments, evaluators recognized the program as “an excellent example of a committed, enthusiastic team who work well together to provide the best care possible for their patients” while describing it as a “strong program.”

“Regular mammogram screenings prove time and again that they save women’s lives,” said Dr. Kimberly Clark-Paul, a breast surgeon at McLaren Port Huron. “Finding breast cancer in its earliest, most treatable stages allow us to be proactive in our care plan. And with a medical screening that vital, patients should have confidence throughout their care process. That is what this accreditation allows us to provide — a measure of confidence for our patients.”

A physician order is required for screening mammograms. If a patient needs to obtain an order, an appointment with a McLaren Port Huron primary care physician can be made at mclaren.org/phdoctors.
