McLaren Bay Region Partners with Healogics, the Nation's Leading Provider of Wound Care

McLaren Bay Region has partnered with Healogics, the nation’s leading provider of advanced, chronic wound care services. The new partnership at the McLaren Bay Region Wound Care Center, located at 4 Columbus Avenue in Bay City, officially began on June 15th. Healogics is headquartered in Jacksonville, Florida, and has a nationwide network of over 600 Wound Care Centers®.

It is estimated that chronic wounds affect 6.7 million people in the U.S. and that number is rising, fueled by an aging population and increasing rates of conditions such as diabetes, obesity, and the late effects of radiation therapy. If left untreated, chronic wounds can lead to diminished quality of life and possible amputation of the affected limb.

"We are excited for our new partnership with Healogics, the leading provider in advanced wound care nationally," said Josh Ulery, Vice President of Ancillary and Support Services at McLaren Bay Region. "This new program will provide will provide high quality care to the members of our community."

The McLaren Bay Region Wound Care Center offers an evidence-based, systematic approach to advanced wound care. A patient’s individualized treatment plan may include specialized wound dressings, debridement, compression therapy, advanced cellular products and topical growth factors, edema management, and/or non-invasive vascular assessment. These treatments are the result of a team approach between the Center’s physicians, nurses as well as the referring physician. A treatment plan is developed and scheduled based on the patient’s needs.

The Center also offers Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT). HBOT is a medical treatment sometimes used to treat chronic wounds and takes place in a transparent acrylic chamber. The chamber contains 100 percent oxygen at a pressure greater than atmospheric pressure (sea level). It works by increasing the blood’s ability to carry oxygen to wound tissue. In addition, white blood cell activity is enhanced. HBOT also accelerates the formation of blood vessels at the wound site.

"We are committed to provide our patients advanced treatments by a specially trained care team," said Lona Underwood, Program Director at the McLaren Bay Region Wound Care Center. "I am honored to help bring this much needed service to our community."

Likely candidates for treatment at the Center are those suffering from diabetic ulcers, pressure ulcers, infections, compromised skin grafts and flaps, and wounds that haven't healed within a reasonable time frame. People with wounds that have not improved with traditional methods of treatment may benefit from a visit to the McLaren Bay Region Wound Care Center. No referral is needed.
