McLaren Medical Group Names Dr. Binesh Patel as Chief Executive Officer

McLaren Medical Group, the employed provider group of statewide McLaren Health Care, has named Binesh Patel, MD, as Chief Executive Officer, effective March 31.

Dr. Patel returns to McLaren Health Care after having served previously as Chief Medical Officer at McLaren Flint for more than five years until September 2022. He will assume the vacant MMG CEO role, which had been filled in the interim by Chad Grant, McLaren Health Care Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer.

“We are excited and pleased to welcome Dr. Patel back to McLaren,” Grant said. “He developed a foundational understanding of our organization during his tenure with us, during which he demonstrated his ability to maintain high-quality clinical care while also establishing strong bonds with providers and identifying and developing opportunities to grow. We are confident these attributes will further enhance the experience patients have with their MMG providers.”

In his role, Dr. Patel will develop, implement, and direct the overall strategy for the organization, which employs more than 640 physicians and surgeons across 40-plus specialties in 150 outpatient care centers throughout Michigan. This includes physician recruitment, practice acquisition and expansion, and various process improvements to best serve its patients.

“I am very grateful for this opportunity,” Dr. Patel said, “and for being able to return to McLaren to work with an exceptional and dedicated medical staff. I look forward to having discussions with my fellow physicians so we can collaborate and elevate our organization for the benefit of our patients and their experience with our providers.”

With more than 10 years of clinical executive leadership experience, Dr. Patel most recently served as the Associate Chief Medical Officer and Senior Medical Director of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan. An emergency medicine physician by training and practice, he served as Chief Medical Officer for Detroit-area hospitals while continuing to care for patients in the ER prior to joining McLaren Flint.
