Before and after: Amy’s making progress

Archive, Month, November, Topics

Months after her bariatric surgery, Amy is showing very significant and noticeable progress.

Over the summer, Amy underwent bariatric surgery after working for months in the pre-surgery process. (Read more about her journey here and here.)

Now, months after her procedure, the benefits of her surgery are beginning to show, and she’s feeling great about her decision.

How are you doing since the surgery?

I am doing well since my surgery. My surgery was on June 23, and it went very well. Dr. Pesta and his team made me feel very comfortable and it went off without a hitch!

I was in the hospital for two-and-a-half days post-surgery, which was tough, but the team taking care of me was amazing. The first week home was the hardest part, adjusting to liquids only for a few weeks and adapting to my new stomach size. It was a tough adjustment relearning what my body will tolerate.

The first few weeks were the hardest, because some of the food I was allowed to have wouldn't settle well with my stomach and I felt sick here and there.

How have you adjusted to your new life?

I have adjusted pretty well! I am down 55 pounds since my surgery, not including the additional 20 I lost prior to my surgery, bringing my grand total to 75 lbs. lost in about four-and-a-half months.

I still have hard days, making sure I am getting in all of my protein and adjusting to my new way of eating and making sure I get in all of my exercise. I would say the hardest part is making sure that I am making good choices for what I eat. There are temptations everywhere and I have to make sure I am sticking to this new way of life and finally losing the weight!

Another thing I struggle with is not stepping on the scale every day. At first I was doing so, getting discouraged when I wouldn't see the weight coming off.

Tell everyone about the picture

These two photos were taken almost exactly one year apart and I am wearing the same shirt in both of them.

The one on the right is now, the one on the left was when I was my highest weight, right before I started the process with the Bariatric Surgery Institute!

This picture gave me so much motivation because a shirt that barely fit me a year ago for the picture on the left is now so loose and almost too large on me!
