Each week, we ask our emergency docs, “What’s going around?”

This week, Dr. Stanley Materka, an emergency physician at McLaren Macomb, reports:

Influenza

Cases of upper respiratory distress, with symptoms of persistent cough and congestion with fever and muscle aches, continue to test positive for flu A. Flu B continues to taper off.

Slip-and-falls

Snow and other winter weather conditions continue to lead to minor orthopedic injuries suffered during slip-and-fall accidents.

Gastro

Symptoms of nausea, vomiting and diarrhea associated with viral gastroenteritis have significantly tapered off.
