Each week, we ask our emergency docs, “What’s going around?”

This week, Dr. Jamey Olvera, an emergency physician at McLaren Macomb, reports:

Influenza

While cases of influenza A, with symptoms of high fever, muscle aches, congestion and cough, remain steadily high, cases of influenza B have overtaken the volume of A cases, with added symptoms of gastrointestinal distress.

Gastro

Viral infections causing symptoms of nausea, vomiting and diarrhea continue to be reported in high volume.

Slip-and-falls

Following the snow and freezing temps, injuries sustained during slip-and-fall accidents have spiked.
