The Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute and Wayne State University present the annual Head and Neck Cancer Symposium on Saturday, Nov. 8, 2025, from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Detroit Marriott Troy (200 W. Big Beaver Road, Troy, Michigan).
This year’s symposium features two guest speakers. Robert Haddad, M.D., professor of Medicine, chief of the Division of Head and Neck Oncology, McGraw Chair in Head and Neck Oncology at Dana Farber Cancer Institute and Harvard Medical School in Boston, will deliver a presentation on “Neoadjuvant Therapy in Head and Neck Cancer: Are We There Yet?” Barbara A. Murphy, M.D., professor of Medicine, director of the Head and Neck Research Program and the Pain and Symptom Management Program at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and the Vanderbilt Ingram Cancer Center in Nashville, will discuss “Advancement in Lymphedema Management in Head and Neck Cancer Survivors.”
Ammar Sukari, M.D., medical oncologist and leader of the Head and Neck Oncology Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) at Karmanos, and Tarik Hadid, M.D., MPH, MS, FACP, medical oncologist and member of the Head and Neck Oncology MDT, co-directed this year’s conference. Presenters will take a deeper dive into the following topics:
- “Updates of the Current Management of Head and Neck Cancer” – Dr. Sukari
- “Biomarkers in Head and Neck Cancer and Their Implications on Decision Making” – Dr. Hadid
- “Implication of the Use of Immunotherapy on Surgical Treatment of Head and Neck Cancer” – Jeffery Hotaling, M.D., FACS, otolaryngologist and surgical oncologist
Health care professionals and specialists will have opportunities to ask questions and receive answers from presenters and colleagues in attendance. To close the conference, Dr. Sukari will moderate an insightful panel discussion, which will include additional Head and Neck Oncology MDT members: Harold Kim, M.D., radiation oncologist; Hassan Nasser, M.D., otolaryngologist and surgical oncologist; Nithin Peddireddy, M.D., otolaryngologist and surgical oncologist; and Dr. Hadid.
The cost to attend is $75 for physicians and pharmacists; $50 for mid-level providers, retired physicians and other allied health providers; $25 for nurses and CTO staff; and $20 for fellows, residents and medical students, which is refundable upon attendance.
