While the cost of seven medical tests could reach hundreds of dollars, McLaren Macomb is committed to providing potentially life-saving tests for $50.
With the recent launch of a Heart & Vascular Screening package, McLaren Macomb is providing its community with an affordable program to assess the health of their heart and vascular system and, in turn, their risk for stroke, heart attack and other heart diseases.
And if it is determined that the patient is at an increased risk for a quality-of-life-limiting, disease, they can work with their physician to address that risk and take steps to lower the chances of it occurring.
“Once we see the symptoms of vascular disease, we’re forced to take a reactive approach to an illness,” said Dr. M. Blair DeYoung, a cardiologist with McLaren Macomb. “If we’re able to take a proactive approach by determining the risk and addressing underlying issues, that puts us and the patient in a very advantageous position.”
These screenings include:
-
Blood pressure
-
Body mass index (BMI)
-
Cholesterol and hemoglobin A1C
-
ECG (formerly EKG)
-
Carotid artery ultrasound
-
Abdominal aortic aneurysm ultrasound
-
Peripheral artery disease screening
Tests are read by board-certified physicians or other qualified clinical professionals before being sent to the patient.
Patients are encouraged to take their results to their primary care physician so they can begin taking steps to address any risks for potential health conditions.
“It’s incredibly beneficial if you’re able to get in front of a disease, even before the patient experiences symptoms,” Dr. DeYoung said.
No prescription is necessary for the Heart & Vascular Screening.
