Each week, we ask our emergency docs, “What’s going around?”

This week, Dr. Pratik Shah, an emergency physician at McLaren Macomb, reports:

Cases of influenza continue to be treated in high volume, with the A strain dominating with symptoms of high fever, muscle aches, persistent cough and congestion.

Viral gastroenteritis, also referred to as the “stomach flu,” continues to sicken patients with symptoms of nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.

Various orthopedic injuries caused by falls due to wintery conditions continue to be treated.
