McLaren Macomb emergency medicine residents 'wow' at SonoCup 2017

Detroit SonoCup 2017

Several McLaren Macomb emergency medicine residents recently participated in Detroit SonoCup 2017, the third annual ultrasound medical skills competition hosted at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Detroit.

The competition pits emergency medicine residents from several Metro Detroit hospitals into friendly competition demonstrating the importance of ultrasound in clinical practice.

"Our residents continue to show us their outstanding work ethic and exceptional knowledge base," said Dr. Julie Lata, emergency medicine residency program director and physician.

SonoCup's competition consists of live ultrasound scanning of volunteers and quizzes on core ultrasound applications. Recent and relevant journal articles are also discussed.

After the first round, McLaren Macomb residents earned the no. 1 seed and a second round bye, placing them in the semifinals before being upset and eliminated.

This was the first time emergency medicine residents from McLaren Macomb, but Dr. Lata vowed they would be back next year to again compete for the title.
