The Employee of the Month award is presented to an employee whose exemplary performance, professionalism and leadership contributes to McLaren Macomb's mission and core values.
Meet Lindsay
Lindsay was nominated for Employee of the Month by Julia Gron, assistant clinical manager on 3 West, for extending the highest level of compassionate care to a patient. The patient was alone with no friends or family to rely on for support. Upon discharge the patient expressed their sincere gratitude for the comfort and kindness Lindsay provided by helping them cope during their stay.
About Lindsay
I grew up in Clinton Township and graduated from Chippewa Valley High School in 2001. I attended Michigan State University where I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in pre-med human biology. Deciding that nursing was my true passion, I went back to school. In 2008 I graduated Suma Cum Laude from The University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing.
Although I'm sincerely grateful and proud of my Nursing degree from U of M, I will always bleed Green!
I am married. Like myself, my husband Mike also works in public service. He is a state trooper for the Michigan State Police. We have two sweet girls. Sophie is 5 and Alexa is 2. For the moment both girls keep us quite busy. However, once they are a little older I plan to become more involved in the community and with McLaren. I love reading classic fiction and gardening. I find both very relaxing and therapeutic. My absolute favorites book, although there are many, would have to be 1984, Gone with the Wind, and Les Miserable's.
Why McLaren
Throughout the years McLaren Macomb has always been the hospital my family has chosen to go to for our medical needs. We always received outstanding care. So naturally, after I graduated, I too wanted to be a part of this extraordinary team. I am truly happy to say that getting hired by McLaren Macomb in January 2009 was the beginning of what I hope will be many years practicing my passion in health care. I have worked on 3 West since I came to McLaren and have learned much from my many mentors on the floor. There aren't many jobs in the world where you have the ability to truly connect with someone like you can in nursing. We take care of patients during a time that is usually very stressful and emotional for them and their loved ones. I take pride knowing that I am helping them heal, not only by monitoring their medical progress, and carrying out doctors' orders, but also helping them cope emotionally and mentally. It is incredibly rewarding to me.
What inspires me
Patient satisfaction. And that to me means not only meeting patient and family expectations, but exceeding them. It encompasses listening to the patient and their family, to find what areas we are doing well and where we have room for improvement so we can provide each and every patient with the best care and experience possible. I also believe that patients have an expectation of having someone who iscompassionate care for them. The health care field is constantly evolving and progressing. As medical professionals, we are continually learning about new technology, medications, treatments, as well as the ever changing best practice protocols. If there is one bit of advice I would give to new nurses "“ don't be afraid to ask questions. You will find that those around you will always guide you.
There is something else that inspires me. My grandma once gave me some wonderful advice. She told me to always count my blessings and be grateful for what I have, and not to focus on the bad things that confront you. I'll add that laughter, smiling and chocolate also seem to help.
