Meet Nancy
Registered Respiratory Therapist

Born and raised in Pennsylvania, Nancy attended Edinboro State College in Erie, Penn. She received her respiratory degree from Lakeland Community College in Mentor, Ohio. Nancy performed her respiratory training at the Cleveland Clinic and was employed at Huron Road and Lake East Hospitals in Ohio before relocating to Michigan.

Nancy has been married to her husband, Martin, for 38 years and together they have three children and five grandchildren.

Drawn to McLaren Macomb's community atmosphere, Nancy has been employed at the hospital for 17 years. Working as a registered respiratory therapist in the respiratory department allows Nancy to provide care to patients throughout the hospital. According to Nancy, "I enjoy working in a smaller teaching hospital where you have the opportunity to use all your skills as a therapist."

While Nancy's primary role is to provide respiratory care to patients with COPD and other lung diseases she also performs outpatient pulmonary function testing and fills in for the health unit coordinator when needed.

Nancy's secret to her success is setting daily goals and adapting to changes. Providing personalized patient care, projecting a positive disposition and focusing on how she can help patients recover in a timely manner are high priorities. She also believes that a smile can make the difference in how patients respond to therapy. The most rewarding aspect of Nancy's job is when patients are discharged home to resume their lives with their family and loved ones.

Nancy's advice for anyone starting a job: "It is important to be a team player. Be open to learning new or different ways of doing a task. Ask questions and always look for opportunities to improve your skills."

What Nancy likes best about her job, "Without a doubt, it's the staff that I work with and all employees at McLaren Macomb. This is an exceptional place to work." Nancy recently participated in the employee focus group meeting.

When not at work Nancy enjoys traveling, golfing and spending time with family and friends.
