Tedell - RN, 4 South

Tedell was born at Mount Clemens General Hospital, grew up nearby and now resides in Clinton Township. He graduated from Macomb Community College Nursing Program and is currently in his last semester of the RN/BSN Nursing Program at Ohio University.

Tedell first acquired a desire to work at McLaren Macomb while a Chippewa Valley High School senior enrolled in the medical careers program and the Wayne State University student mentoring program. Inspired by James Simon, who is currently a RN in McLaren Macomb's Emergency Department, Tedell was a volunteer greeter in the ED during his college years. His experience also includes patient transportation, float pool PCA and nursing technician.

"But I am most proud to follow in my mother's, Pat, footsteps as she has been employed with McLaren Macomb for 38 years as a certified health unit coordinator," Tedell said.

Currently a Registered Nurse on 4 South, Tedell strives to promote patient well-being and satisfaction to achieve best patient outcomes. He collaborates with members of the health care team as well as patients and family members using a patient-centered approach. "As a team, we promote evidenced-based practices and interventions that aid in a safe and effective plan of care for all patients. Helping those in-need during their most difficult time is what inspires me the most. I truly believe that every member of the McLaren Macomb team has been given a unique opportunity to make people's lives better, while ensuring the well-being and success of each and every patient."

Tedell firmly believes that patient safety and wellness is optimally maintained in a team environment no matter the position. He defines patient satisfaction as meeting the needs of each patient on an individual level, creating the basis of patient-centered care.

Tedell's advice for new nursing professionals: "Never lose your passion and always remember the reason behind why you chose your career. Always remain thankful. Be humble. Pray about everything and worry about nothing and add a little bit of caffeine to your day."

During time away from his nursing duties, Tedell is actively involved in many activities at his church-playing piano and keyboard, singing, youth mentoring and a summer camp leader all while remaining an avid Bible student. He also enjoys attending concerts, exploring new foods and restaurants, spending time with family and friends, going to the movies and watching football.

Obtaining his Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) and traveling across the globe providing anesthesia on medical missions is a high priority for Tedell. He also plans to marry and start a family.
