Roughly 55,000 injuries reported annually to ERs nationwide were sustained on the golf course or during other golf-related activities.

Some of these golfers lack sufficient flexibility and strength and may also have poor posture and swing mechanics setting them up for possible injury.

The most common of these are injuries affecting the lower back-28 to 35 percent of all reported cases-but other typical injuries are those to the elbows, shoulders, wrists and some lower extremity type injuries as well.

Mike Mulcahy, director of rehabilitation services at McLaren Macomb, recently joined Jason Bellamy, host of Move Forward Radio, to discuss these common golf injuries, how they occur and some simple exercises, posture alignment tips and other preparations golfers can make to avoid injury and keep enjoying the great game of golf!
