Each week, we ask our ER team what they’re seeing more and more of in our Emergency Department.

This week, Dr. Anna Rivers, an emergency physician at McLaren Macomb, reports:


Both A and B influenza strains have been reported in increasingly high volumes with the majority of patients reporting a high fever, muscles aches, cough and congestion. Children have also reported an additional symptom of diarrhea.

Upper respiratory infections

A viral infection, patients can experience a cough, congestion and runny nose, with severe and untreated cases progressing to influenza.


Viral infections leading to symptoms of nausea, vomiting and diarrhea remain very common.
