common illnesses

Each week, we ask our ER team what they’re seeing more and more of in our Emergency Department.

This week, Dr. Glenn DeLong, an emergency physician at McLaren Macomb, reports:

Influenza

A sharp spike in flu cases have led to many patients reporting symptoms of cough, congestion, muscle aches and high fever.

Upper respiratory

More and more patients are experiencing symptoms of cough, congestion and runny nose, the result of a viral infection.

Pneumonia

Symptoms of fever and fatigue accompanied by a persistent, productive cough are the result of an infection leading to pneumonia.

Gastro

With symptoms of nausea, vomiting and diarrhea, cases of gastroenteritis/stomach flu have remained steadily high.
