Endoscopy

Privacy. Comfort. Accurate Results.

Endoscopy is the visual examination of the upper intestinal tract – esophagus, stomach, duodenum, and biliary tract, the lower intestinal tract – colon, sigmoid, and rectum, and the lungs. Endoscopy procedures give doctors a way to examine the inside of the body in a minimally invasive way. Many endoscopy procedures are performed on an outpatient basis. All are performed by board-certified specialists. If you are having an endoscopy procedure, be assured that at McLaren, we offer a close-to-home, safe and caring environment.

Nurses, physicians and support staff at the McLaren Endoscopy Labs are highly trained endoscopy specialists who focus on patient privacy and comfort while producing the desired results. They are prepared to respond 24/7 to every need, from diagnostics to life-threatening conditions.

Manoscan Esophageal Motility – fast, accurate information.

Our state-of-the-art equipment uses continuous circumferential catheters for Esophageal Motility Testing. A specially-trained Registered Nurse will perform this 10- to 15-minute procedure, which is minimally uncomfortable and provides rapid, accurate reports.

Esophageal problems may include difficulty swallowing, heartburn or reflux, or chest pain. If you are having any of these problems, please consult your Primary Care Physician, who will refer you to a Gastroenterologist with the expertise to determine if this test is right for you.

What to expect.

Because you will be given medications that will make you drowsy, you will need to bring someone with you who can drive you home the day of the procedure.

A Gastroenterologist or a General Surgeon will perform your endoscopy procedure. Before the procedure, you’ll be given a sedative that will make you feel drowsy and relaxed. During the procedure, the physician will use an endoscope – a thin and flexible tube – to pass into the digestive tract. The endoscope has a light and a camera, which produces a color image of the inside of the digestive tract.

When you leave the hospital, you should expect to be awake enough to go home, but plan to continue resting at home.

Post-procedure instruction and home instructions will be provided and your doctor will specify any follow-up care you may need.
