Talking to kids about the coronavirus

Given the virtually ubiquitous coverage of the coronavirus on traditional and social media, and the disruption of their day-to-day life, children and teens may be experiencing feelings of anxiety or a level of worry during this ordeal.

With efforts to stem the spread of the virus canceling kids’ school and closing many of their favorite places, here are a few ways to talk to your child/children about the virus provided by the National Association of School Psychologists.

  • Consider limiting children’s exposure to the media and social media
  • Remain a calm and reassuring presence for them
  • Correct misinformation they may have been exposed to
  • Maintain a normal routine as much as possible
