Our unit is designed with quality, safety, and comfort in mind. For those women experiencing childbirth, birthing occurs in large friendly rooms with a choice of a tub or shower. The expert staff cares for laboring women using the latest technology along with the highest standards of care and compassion.
For those undergoing surgical procedures a private room in soothing colors is offered to assist in a restful and private recovery.

Breastfeeding Class
For expectant mothers and their support person who are considering breastfeeding their baby.
This is a 2-hour class designed to help new mothers become more comfortable with breastfeeding. Issues discussed include the benefits of breastfeeding, how to use a breast pump, the best way to encourage babies to breastfeed, and purchasing a quality breast pump.

Preparation for Labor and Delivery
Childbirth education reduces anxiety and provides the mother and her support person with techniques and suggestions to promote the kind of birth experience they desire. All patients who will be giving birth at McLaren Bay Region are strongly encouraged to sign up for the appropriate class.
Classes include:
Childbirth Class 3-Week Series
This class covers labor and birth, various coping strategies, including natural and medication options. Attendees will also learn about Cesarean birth, Postpartum, and receive a tour of McLaren's Family BirthPlace.
Class 3 of this series is devoted to the newborn and includes baby care basics, info on newborn development, appearance and behaviors, hospital routine, feedings, diapering, soothing fussy babies and safety. A certified infant carseat safety technician will be available for Q & A. This class is free.
Breastfeeding Class
This class is for expectant mothers who wish to have more information on breastfeeding. This class is free.

Precious Reflections Support Group is a group of parents and professionals committed to supporting bereaved parents that have experienced a pregnancy loss through miscarriages, stillbirth, or infant death, through sharing thoughts an feelings on a one to one basis and in monthly meetings. Mood Changes After Your Baby's Birth
In the Hospital
New mothers who deliver a baby at McLaren Bay Region complete a Postpartum Depression Risk Assessment screening before going home. Postpartum Depression is highly treatable, and we want to ensure that no woman leaves the hospital without support, education and follow-up care.
After You Go Home
Remember that postpartum depression is a real medical illness. You will receive a postpartum follow up call within the first 3 weeks of your delivery. Please be very honest about how you're feeling so as you can be referred for further evaluation and support as needed.
