OPEIU has notified the hospital that it intends to hold its strike beginning 7 a.m., Monday, July 7. McLaren Macomb’s first priority is to care for the community while the union conducts its strike. Upon receiving notification of the strike from union leadership, the hospital immediately began preparations to secure highly qualified, licensed temporary workers.
The union’s strike for both bargaining units begins at 7 a.m., Monday, July 7. Service unit employees will conduct a three-day strike and return to work at 7 a.m., Thursday, July 10.
Due to the number of registered nurses needed to maintain safe care in our hospital and the timing of securing qualified, licensed nurses over the holiday weekend, McLaren Macomb had to commit to a five-day minimum engagement with a staffing agency to protect patient care during the union’s strike. The nurses have been informed that they can return to work effective 6:59 a.m., Sunday, July 12.
