MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich.—McLaren Macomb, the 288-bed acute care hospital serving all of Macomb County, this week was awarded a 2018 Hospital Patient Safety Award from the Economic Alliance for Michigan (EAM). A nonprofit group comprised of Michigan’s largest employers and unions, the EAM award recognizes hospitals throughout the state who “perform high marks and improvement in patient safety and quality of care.”

McLaren Macomb earned the Improvement Award, awarded to hospitals that have shown improvement in hospital safety for four consecutive 6-month terms as reported by industry-rating organization The Leapfrog Group.

“Patient safety and quality are of the highest priority for our hospital,” said Dr. Beth Wendt, McLaren Macomb chief of staff and medical director of quality. “Multidisciplinary team efforts have evolved to undertake endeavors around these priorities, but it is the daily, excellent care delivered by our bedside caregivers that make these outcomes possible, and to be acknowledged and have our achievements recognized validates those efforts and bolsters our determination.”

McLaren Macomb is the only Macomb County hospital to earn an award from the EAM. Four Michigan hospitals earned the Improvement Award. Eight additional hospitals received the Excellence Award for maintaining high quality statistics.

“The members of the EAM are dedicated more than ever to improving patient safety in the state,” read part of a statement from Bret Jackson, EAM president. “We applaud this year’s recipients and thank them for their continued dedication to patient safety and hospital transparency.”
