2015 CEHRT Requirement

The healthcare landscape continues to change at an even faster pace in 2019. We would like to provide you with an update that may impact your and our success in Population Health Management.

In fiscal year 2019 CMS announced that MIPS, ACO, Bundles, and CPC+ participants are required to use the 2015 Edition of certified electronic health record technology (2015 CEHRT). CMS believes this level of EHR technology will better support the interoperable exchange of health information and improve clinical workflows. Participants are required to use the functionality of the 2015 CEHRT for a minimum of any continuous 90-day EHR reporting period in 2019.

Benefits of 2015 CEHRT:

  • Supports patient electronic access to health information through new functionalities (Patient Portal) which allow patients greater flexibility and choice in how they access their health information.
  • Allows greater ability to electronically prescribe controlled substances (EPCS).

How does this change impact you?

  • 25% of your MIPS score comes from the Promoting Interoperability category – you may forfeit $.
  • Medicare physician fee schedule is frozen for the next 5 years; the only way to get additional funding is through value-based reimbursement in programs such as MIPS, ACO, and Bundles.

How does this impact you as an MHPN provider?

  • Our ACO is required to attest that 50% of our participant providers are utilizing 2015 CEHRT.
  • If you are not using 2015 CEHRT, you are at risk of being removed from participation in our ACO. However, should you choose to upgrade your EHR to meet this requirement, we ask that you please notify MHPN as soon as possible.
