Definitive Agreement Signed. Hospital to Adopt New Name.

MAUMEE, OHIO and GRAND BLANC, MICH. – Executives at McLaren Health Care and St. Luke’s Hospital announced today that they have finalized an agreement for the 312-bed acute care facility to become the 15th hospital in the not-for-profit McLaren Health Care system and the first in the state of Ohio. This announcement follows the appr oval of the transaction by the Ohio Attorney General. The agreement has been signed by both parties and will become effective October 1, 2020 when St. Luke’s transitions to the McLaren fiscal accounting year.

“This is a significant step for McLaren as we look to grow into surrounding states from our home base here in Michigan,” said Phil Incarnati, President and Chief Executive Officer for McLaren. “In 2018, we entered the Indiana market with the acquisition on MDwise, an HMO serving the entire state. Today, we are excited to move forward with this partnership and to work with the leadership team and medical staff at St. Luke’s to expand their clinical programs and develop new partnerships with other providers and payors in the northwest Ohio market.”

Under the agreement, McLaren will make significant investments in St. Luke’s to enhance services and strengthen and grow the hospital’s presence in the community – including upgrades to the infrastructure of the hospital, such as renovating the intensive care center, surgical suites and more. Business growth strategies planned will focus on strengthened physician partnerships, payor contracting and service line development.

Jennifer Montgomery, BSN, MSA, FACHE, President and CEO of St. Luke’s announced that the hospital will be renamed McLaren St. Luke’s. “This name change allows St. Luke’s to maintain its more than 100-year heritage while transitioning to the McLaren brand of integrated health care services,” said Montgomery. “As the hospital’s new President and CEO, I am excited to lead St. Luke’s through the journey of joining an outstanding, quality-driven health care organization and demonstrating to northwest Ohio that McLaren brings the best value in health care as defined by quality outcomes and cost.”

The St. Luke’s Board of Trustees will continue to provide governance oversight for the organization.

“Joining McLaren Health Care is an incredible milestone,” said St. Luke’s Chairman of the Board, Bill Carroll. “At the end of the day, the community benefits by continuing to receive high-quality, accessible health care close to home.”
