McLaren Greater Lansing, part of statewide McLaren Health Care, has entered into an agreement with Lansing-based Brightwell Behavioral Health, whereby Brightwell will expand access to high-quality inpatient behavioral health services for the region. This expanded access represents a commitment to addressing growing behavioral health needs while ensuring patients can receive compassionate, specialized care close to home.
Brightwell will provide clinical and administrative services for a dedicated adult inpatient hospital-based unit located within the main campus of McLaren Greater Lansing. Staffed by a comprehensive, compassionate, and multidisciplinary team of psychiatrists, nurses, therapists, and caregivers from Brightwell, the unit is designed to provide safe, secure, and patient-centered treatment for a range of psychiatric conditions.
“There has been a growing demand not only for behavioral health care but for care close to patients’ homes, where they can be close to the family, loved ones, and support systems,” said Dr. Linda Peterson, McLaren Greater Lansing Chief Medical Officer. “We look forward to Brightwell’s specialized and experienced teams delivering high-quality mental care — locally — in a safe and secure inpatient unit, which is positioned to care for patients with a range of psychiatric diagnoses, both voluntary and involuntary.”
Brightwell’s expertise is in treating complex psychiatric conditions in adults who may be experiencing behavioral and emotional health challenges. The East Lansing facility is Joint Commission–accredited and designed specifically to provide individualized, short-term inpatient care for conditions such as depression, anxiety, psychosis, and behavioral disturbances. Patients benefit from seamless referrals, 24/7 clinical liaison support, and a collaborative care model that involves both patients and their families.
“McLaren supports Brightwell’s vision of expanding access to behavioral health care for the Lansing community and surrounding areas by providing a space in which to provide vital services,” said Aaryn Ebner, Regional Chief Nursing Officer. “With this agreement, we have been able to enhance services and meet a growing need.”
The Brightwell Unit at McLaren Greater Lansing will open effective Oct. 1 with the staff’s ability to care for 15 patients at a time. Referrals will be accepted from McLaren’s emergency department, local primary care providers, and community-based organizations, ensuring patients have timely and coordinated access to care.
