Planned Giving - Ron and Bettie Fenton
In 1992, McLaren Northern Michigan Foundation was notified that Ron and Bettie Fenton had planned for a gift to benefit the hospital in their will. Bettie passed away in 2016 at the age of 99 and just a few weeks ago, we were notified that their gift is forthcoming.
Bettie and Ron certainly never could have predicted how very impactful their gift would be. They couldn’t have predicted that their generous commitment would be received at a time when a global pandemic has had such a devastating financial effect on our economy and our hospital.
This health crisis has profoundly impacted our hospital, and while philanthropy has always played a crucial role in our history, it will play an even greater role in our future.
There has never been a more critical need for your support – now and in the future – and we are asking you to consider all the ways that you can invest in our hospital.
Giving now will help our patients get the care they need and deserve. Your future gift will ensure that our hospital remains strong for future generations and that we have the resources we need to continue delivering the very best care – despite what the world throws at us.

Legacy Society
When you make a future commitment to McLaren Northern Michigan Foundation through your will or trust or with a beneficiary designation for retirement assets or life insurance, you will be recognized as a member of our Legacy Society. You will also be recognized as a Friend of the Hospital, with support from the Foundation Nurse Liaison in coordinating medical appointments and care.
Your planned gift puts you in good company today. In the future, your gift will ensure that our hospital remains strong. Thinking about giving a gift through your will?
A bequest is one of the easiest gifts you can make. It could be a gift of a specific asset, a fixed dollar amount or a percentage of your estate or, your gift could be the residue of your estate or what is left after all gifts have been made to your heirs. An attorney can easily include a provision in your will that leaves a lasting gift to us. Your attorney can include the following language in your will:
“After fulfilling all other provisions, I hereby give, devise and bequeath to McLaren Northern Michigan Foundation, a nonprofit organization located at 360 Connable, Petoskey, MI 49770, Federal Tax ID #38-2445611, ALL OR A PERCENTAGE of the rest, residue and remainder of my estate to be used for the area of greatest need at the time the gift is received.”
