MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich.—Rebecca Avers, RN, BSN, clinical manager of cardiology and chest pain coordinator at McLaren Macomb’s Mat Gaberty Heart Center, has won the Emerging Leader award for the 2019 Nightingale Awards for Nursing Excellence. Says Avers, “I am truly honored to be nominated by our Cardiology team, receiving a Nightingale Award is an amazing recognition from the nursing profession. Thank you to everyone that has supported my nursing career at McLaren Macomb in all of my roles, and especially those that welcomed me back to the cath lab a year and a half ago as clinical manager.”

Now in its 31st year and sponsored by the Oakland University School of Nursing, the Nightingale Awards for Nursing Excellence, through nominations by their superiors, colleagues and physicians, recognize outstanding nurses and their achievements in the profession.

“Rebecca is dedicated to the nursing profession and a respected member of the McLaren Macomb nursing leadership team,” said Stacy McDougall, director of cardiovascular services at McLaren Macomb. “She is deserving of the 2019 Nightingale Emerging Leader Award because of her passion for clinical excellence.”

In her role, Avers has successfully opened new cardiovascular service programs, improved quality metrics and created a culture that places the patient and our employees at the center of all they do.
