McLaren Flint is partnering with the Flint Firebirds Hockey Club for the 8th consecutive year for a cancer awareness event. “Hockey Fights Cancer” will take place on Saturday, October 14. The puck drops at 7:00 p.m. at the Dort Financial Center. There will be plenty of action both on and off the ice as the Firebirds host the Guelph Storm in an exciting Ontario Hockey League battle.
“Hockey Fights Cancer” generates awareness and raises funds to support the community with many cancer-related services, including transportation to and from treatment, free 3D mammograms to help with early breast cancer diagnosis, education, as well as oncology nurse navigators, and much more. The Flint Firebirds players will wear specially designed jerseys during the game that will be autographed and auctioned off at the end of the third period. A 50/50 raffle will also be held.
“We greatly appreciate the Flint Firebirds and their continued partnership as they continue to raise funds for this important cause,” states Doug Glazier, Vice President, McLaren Flint Foundation. “We are looking forward to all of the night’s activities at this family-friendly event.”
The Firebirds are coming off of successful back-to-back seasons and have high expectations for this upcoming season. Most recently, they had four players selected in the 2023 NHL Draft in Nashville, TN and this year's roster features five NHL drafted or signed players (Gavin Hayes - Chicago Blackhawks, Tristian Bertucci - Dallas Stars, Coulson Pitre - Anaheim Ducks, Nathan Day - Edmonton Oilers, and Ethan Hay - Tampa Bay Lightning). Who will be lucky enough to make the winning bid on these star players’ game jerseys?
“The Flint Firebirds are excited to partner with the McLaren Flint Foundation again this year in the fight against cancer,” said Jeremy Torrey, Flint Firebirds President. “We all have loved ones who have been or could be affected by this disease. Having the ability to make a difference creates a great amount of pride for our fans, players, and organization.”
Great seats are still available and can be purchased by using promo code “FIGHT” at the Dort Financial Center box office window or at etix.com. Proceeds from each ticket sold with the use of promo code “FIGHT” will benefit the McLaren Flint Foundation.
