Holiday Cookies Are a Part of McLaren Hospital’s History

"The McRee Guest House is just one important piece of McLaren's history."

For the 30 years prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, the smell of freshly baked cookies greeted the guests entering the McRee Guest House at McLaren Greater Lansing. Through the generosity of McLaren Greater Lansing volunteers, employees, physicians and friends, the guest house was built in 1991 as a comfortable place for families to stay while their loved ones received care at the hospital.

Until the COVID-19 pandemic, McLaren volunteers cared for the guests at the house as if they were family. One of the many things volunteers did was bake cookies and other treats to provide comfort to those staying there.

These recipes, handed down for generations, have recently been compiled into a cookbook, along with photos taken over the years. The book is available for sale in the Peppermint Boutique Gift Shop at McLaren Greater Lansing for $5 and makes a perfect holiday gift.

This holiday season, we are sharing these two recipes from the book:

The McRee Guest House is just one important piece of McLaren's history. As McLaren moves to its new health care campus (adjacent to Michigan State University in South Lansing) in the spring of 2022, it will continue to make history with a new state-of-the-art hospital that will provide care to the community for generations to come.
