Internist Joins McLaren Internal Medicine in Petoskey

Board certified internist, Jay Anderson, DO, has joined McLaren Northern Michigan Internal Medicine in Petoskey.

A former mechanical and automotive engineer, Dr. Anderson changed his occupation path shortly after starting his first career. “I realized I wanted to become a physician after seeing the failing health of those around me,” expressed Dr. Anderson. “I wanted to make a difference and be the kind of doctor who focuses on prevention and healthy choices.”

A Michigan native, Dr. Anderson grew up in Goodrich. He received his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and Master of Automotive Engineering from the University of Detroit Mercy. He continued his education at Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine where he received his medical degree. He completed his residency at Detroit Wayne County Health Authority, now called Authority Health, where he was Chief Resident.

During his medical tenure, Dr. Anderson has treated patients in both the clinic and hospital setting. He began practicing medicine in Wayne County and Clare Michigan before continuing his career in Minnesota then Connecticut before returning to the Great Lakes State again. “I chose to practice at McLaren Northern Michigan for the community,” said Dr. Anderson. “I have always had great memories of my time previously in northern Michigan. The people and the natural beauty drew me back to Michigan.”

Dr. Anderson chose to be a primary care physician so he could build lasting relationships with his patients. “People are complex. We need to think of all factors of their health including physical, mental and social. Participating as a primary care physician allows me to help with barriers to health care and work with a team of professionals to give my patients the best chance at living their healthiest life,” added Dr. Anderson.

In his free time, Dr. Anderson enjoys exploring the great outdoors, finding new restaurants, golfing, skiing, and spending time with his wife, two dogs and cat.

Dr. Anderson is welcoming new patients at McLaren Northern Michigan Internal Medicine, located in the McLaren Medical Office Building, 560 W. Mitchell St., Suite 300, in Petoskey. To learn more visit McLaren.org/NorthernCare or call 231-487-2460.
